This project is located in the town which has two cultures in obvious contrast; traditional lifestyle of coastal villages and new technological inflow of wind energy production / research facilities. Through the architectural intervention, this aims to create a common ground for two cultures by adapting and integrating the components from both parties; Bulteok and wind generator system. Bulteok is a community structure built for female divers who dive for harvesting marine products. Before and after divers harvest in sea, they gather in this place to avoid wind and take a rest. It has been used not only as wind shelter but also as community gathering space. However, due to the fact that the number of woman divers has been decreasing and some of Bulteoks have been replaced by modern housings, the Bulteok culture has been disappearing gradually. Continuum Bulteok is the monument for this traditional culture. The architecture plan interprets and recreates the ancient masonry structure. The original masonry system does not use any adhesive material and stands only by the friction force between natural stones. Inspired by this system, a new concrete block has devised to maximize friction force. Resulted form maximizes friction ranges of surfaces and make the surfaces to meet in crossing symmetry position. And as in ancient Bulteok structures, this wall is disposed as a half oval shape to resist wind effectively. Micro wind generating devices are implanted into the masonry structure, therefore they can provide light and warmth to this community space. According to the direction and strength of wind, the brightness and location of light changes in real time. This village is in harsh coastal environment which makes architectural materials decay easily. Continuum Bulteok accepts this decay and intervene with it; three layers of different life spans are designed. First layer with wind generation system lightens the structure, but the electrical circuit decays quickly. After the usage of period this component will be removed. The layer of wood which is used for stacking process decays slower than electronic circuits but faster than concrete. Lastly the concrete module layer stays with the landscape of town consistently.
